What is the percentage of calls to which an officer responds where someone has a gun at the scene?

Answer: 100 percent. If an officer is present, there is a gun at the scene.

It is highly likely that if someone gets your duty firearm ‒ for any reason ‒ that person will kill you. In every confrontation a law enforcement officer is involved in, at least one firearm is present, the officer’s firearm. If your firearm is ever taken away from you, and you fail to defend your gun successfully for any reason, it may be the first and last time it will ever happen to you. It is highly likely that if someone gets your gun ‒ for any reason ‒ that person will kill you. Like all training, handgun retention must be hands-on, with a qualified trainer, and in as realistic an environment as possible.

  • Tactical Law Enforcement Jiu-Jitsu LEVEL 1 AND 2. Law Enforcement brothers and sisters often say “We don’t want to go to the ground”, but the only way you can successfully get up off the ground safely is if you know what to do when the fight falls to the ground, so to avoid panic when the fight falls to the ground you have to know what you are doing, you have to have been there before and learn techniques that can keep you alive.
    All the fundamental techniques to survive the ground fighting. All the main controls, defenses, escapes, and submissions. Jiu-Jitsu principles are based upon defending yourself or subduing a larger assailant utilizing leverage-based techniques while expending minimal amounts of energy.     This a highly recommended class to all departments. Professor Andre Quiles was the first to create a full long gun curriculum incorporating our Protect, Retain, Control, Disarm, Submit and Restrain System.     Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) based class with MMA techniques adapted for Law Enforcement. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the main police fighting tool nowadays, but when facing more than one suspect, BJJ can be dangerous. This class has all the main striking techniques and striking defenses. Clinch, distance management for protection and radio backup, fighting stance, footwork, reasonable amount of force, and avoiding the takedown are part of this class.
